2. Higher education

The 79-th government's session on December 31, 1942 decided to establish the University of Skopie named after the King Boris III. Faculties of History and Philosophy were the first one to be found. The inauguration took place on December 19, 1943 in the presence of the regent prince Kiril and the educational minister Dr. Boris Yotzov. One hundred and twenty five students were enrolled there. The regular budget amounted to 6.420.000 lv. [33]

In years preceding the establishment of the Skopie University the main interest was to the older universities in Bulgaria proper: 211 students from Vardar Macedonia were enrolled there. [34]
